October 23, 2010-WLO vs South Meck

On Saturday, October 23, 2010 West Lincoln Optimist traveled to East Meckenburg High School in Charlotte, NC to the final Bowl Game for the 2010 season. WLO played South Meck at 5:00 pm. South Meck had some very large boys on their team. So big that our coach asked to see the boys birth certificate. We were all concerned that our boys were going to get hurt. We found out the boys were legitimate to play and were even brothers, one 11 and one 12. I've add a picture of the boys below so you can see our concern too! Anyway, WLO played a good game but still lost 14-0. Robbie ran the ball quite a bit and we thought he was going to catch another one in this game but a South Meck player took it right out of his hands. Oh well, that's football! Robbie was supported by his parents and grandparents, Gary & Wanda at this game. Saturday is our last and final game of the season. We will be playing East Lincoln Optimist's white team as a scrimmage or for the fun of it how ever you want to put it. So we'll see you at East Lincoln Saturday at 11:30 am for the final game of 2010! Now its time for wrestling!!! Practice has already started this week. So I'll be update that blog very soon!

October 16, 2010- WLO vs Cramerton Panthers

On Saturday, October 16, 2010 West Lincoln Optimist played Cramerton Panthers at Lincolnton High School at 2:30pm. It was a beautiful fall day and the boys played together the best they have all season. The Panthers were a big, tough team and we expected them to beat us pretty bad but that was not the case at all. We held them 14-0 pretty much the whole game. The points they scored were really based on our mistakes early on in the game. We were very proud of our boys! Robbie had a great game and was able to make his first catch other than an interception. That was exciting in addition to the many carries he made. He also had many great defensive plays making tackle to stop several touchdowns. Robbie had lots of support as usual. Both parents were at the game even though Tony was working. The benefit of this game being in the city limits, Tony was able to still attend in addition to Grandpa Emanuelson and Freda. She brought along the Gragg boys, Lawson, Barrett & Parker. Great day for the WLO even if it was a loss. Now we wait to find out the play off schedule so there should be at least one more game. Stay tuned for more information about the next games!!!

October 9, 2010-WLO vs Gastonia Huskies

On Saturday, October 9, 2010 West Lincoln Optimist played the Gastonia Huskies at North Gaston High School. This was a tough game to play and watch. This team was big and played some dirty ball. By half time, there were two boys ejected from the game for fighting. Each team was warned about their conduct before the second half began. So we were glad when this game was over. The score was 38-0 to confirm how bad the day went. No one was hurt and for that we were grateful. Robbie played most of the game and he had the support of his mom & dad and grandparents Freda & Mackey at the game. Since we were not on the offense very often, I don't have as many pictures of Robbie from this game.

October 2, 2010-WLO vs Dallas -Homecoming

On Saturday, October 2nd, WLO played Dallas Wildcats at WLHS. It was our Homecoming and probably the best chance we had to win. I had been to Ohio and just returned that day so I could see the game. I'm so glad I made it back in time because the boys were so excited and pump up. The energy in the air was high. The boys played a good game and won 20-6. It was such a great feeling for them and very emotional for me! You can see in the pictures below Robbie carried the ball a lot and played most of the game. It was extra special for me to see his first Homecoming celebration and to end the game shaking hand with the other team while the music played "Boys of Fall". What a special day for these boys! Those there to share in the day were Robbie's parents, grandparents Freda & Mackey and Uncle Rodney along with the cousins, Barrett & Parker.

September 25, 2010- WLO vs Boger City at North Lincoln HS

On Saturday, September 25th West Lincoln Optimist played Boger City Steelers at North Lincoln High School. The coach of Boger City is Charles Litteljohn, Robbie's coach from last year. So it was nice to see familiar faces at this game. The Steelers are a large and strong team so we were not expecting to win going into the game. They had about 3 times the players we had. It was a tough game and WLO lost 22-0. But Robbie got to play the entire game except for the last 4 minutes of the game when he had his hand stepped on and was taken out. He made his first interception during this game and for the first time played quarterback. So there was lots to talk about after this game. Robbie was again supported by lots of family. In addition to his mom & dad were Gma & Gpa Emanuelson, Freda & Mackey. Joey was home that weekend and also came to support Robbie. We appreciate all of the support and cheering!!!

Sept 18, 2010 WLO vs ELO at Lincolnton HS

Saturday, Sept 18, 2010 West Lincoln Optimist played East Lincoln Optimist. It was a very tough day. Robbie was getting over strep throat and had spent the last 2 days in bed. This was the first activity he had since getting sick with a 101.7 temperature on Thursday. The coaches kept him off of the kick off team so that he could rest and he only played defense part of the time. However it didn't really matter. The team was huge and beat us 38-0. It was very hot and in the middle of the day and just didn't end how we would have liked. However, Robbie still had support of Grandma Wanda, Maw Maw Freda & Mackey and of course his Dad was able to come even though he was "working" since it was in the city limits.

September 11, 2010 WLO vs Bessemer City at West Lincoln HS

West Lincoln Optimist was played at our home stadium, West Lincoln HS. We played Bessemer City and played a fairly good game. The score was 18-8. Robbie scored the only touchdown and we were all very excited. We even had someone come up to us after the game to say that it was the first touchdown for WLO 11-12 year olds in a year & a half. Robbie again played the entire game and was exhausted at the end of the game. He started by being tackle by a huge kid in the first play of the game. It was a hit so hard everyone talked about it for days. For moments Tony and I didn't know whether he was going to get up. We weren't sure if we were going to the ER after the game or HomePlace to eat supper like we usually do. But Robbie popped up and played until he had run out of steam when the game was over. He had been stepped on so many times, he was bruised on all parts of his body. We are so proud of his determination and love for the game. We were also excited to have his grandparents, Wanda & Gary and Freda & Mackey there to witness his touchdown. Along with Uncle Steve and cousins, Myra Grace & Carter, Uncle Rodney and cousins Barrett & Parker.
